About Us
Hello! My name is Sumin, and I am a high school senior welcoming you from the peaceful outskirts of East Alabama. I am the founder and the president of I AM WORTH IT (IWI), a student-led organization aimed to help children strengthen their self-identity and worth through creative learning activities.
From authoring two children's picture books to claiming national journalism and essay recognitions, I share the stories of others. I write biographies of a neuroscientist who faced traumatic car injuries, of a little Chinese girl who endured taunting due to her golden skin, of a teenage boy who suffered from the loss of his grandmother— I write for those who lack the voice. I breathe stories and grow from them; the countless memoirs, tears, broken laughter, and thundering applause— all define who I am today. Through these intimate moments of diving into others' stories, I find my deep-rooted passion and interest: to inspire and give back to the silent community of fragmented voices and unfinished tales. I wish to free the knotted strings of those who lack the courage to express themselves just as they are.
I AM WORTH IT is my dream come to life. Through our crafting and writing workshops, children will learn to show their voice and find their true identity as unique individuals. From "self-love" paper heart origami sessions to self-confidence journaling sessions, IWI aims to introduce the most important concepts of "accepting oneself" and "worth" to young students. Currently, our monthly workshops are held in local daycares around rural Eastern Alabama. In the future, we hope to branch out our impact more, encouraging children in various local areas to express their self-identity through art and creative writing.
On our website, we will upload workshop blogs, unraveling the most creative artworks by children from our community in East Alabama, as well as the most current news on the importance of self identity to children’s mental well being and brain development. We will also share the most intimate snapshots from our workshop sessions on our blog page!
Join our journey today and dive into pages full of bubbling stories and, of course, smiles!
I AM WORTH IT strives to advocate for the positive development of self-identity and self-worth for each child.
“Surrounded by encouraging voices and creative mediums, children dive into the extraordinary world of self-expression.”
— Sumin, Founder of IWI
